As you may or may not know, Herky had fractured one of her molars and had to get surgery to get that tooth extracted. It was a very unfortunate accident, but we did our best to keep her comfortable afterwards.
Here is what we did:
The most important was to feed Herky some soft food. We opted for the Orijen freeze-dried food for a few days, then the Caru stews.

- Caru stews: http://carupetfood.com/product-catego...
The Orijen freeze-dried food was a great option, as it seemed complete and balanced. However, it is quite pricey and takes a lot of time to prepare. This is a down side because Herky gets VERY impatient waiting for her food. The other option is stews. The Caru stews actually looked like home-cooked human food!
You could also pour some hot water or salt-free broth over your dog's kibble to soften it. Again, this requires a bit of waiting around and may be a bit annoying for your dog ;)
Of course, follow the instructions given by your veterinarian and administer any medication prescribed. Herky had some anti-inflammatory and painkillers. Both were to be administered with meals.
I hope this may help you in any way possible. Don't forget to keep your dog comfortable, and to avoid any chewing in the meantime.
